Latin America Because of the high Catholic population of Central and South America, blue is often
associated with religion as the color of the Virgin Mary’s robe or headscarf. Moreover, blue can cause an
emotional stir because of its association with mourning. It is also the color of trust and serenity in
Mexico and is the color of soap in Colombia.
Middle East Blue is safe and protecting. It is the color associated with Heaven, spirituality and
immortality.
Around the world In Thailand, blue is the color associated with Friday. Blue is often considered the most
positive and safest color for a global audience. Skype, the international web-based telephone company,
uses a blue color scheme for each of its sites around the world.
Blue is one of the most popular colors in web design – and for good reason. You see blue on a lot of
websites because, to put it simply, it is the color of trust. Blue is the color of calm and serenity, and as
such inspires security and a feeling of safety.
For this reason, blue is a color often used by banks: CitiBank, Chase, Capital One and Barclays, for
example, all use blue. However, the calming effects also make blue a friendly and inviting color, which
explains its adoption by Facebook and Twitter.
As if that weren't reason enough to use it, blue is also incredibly versatile; its vibrancy has more drastic
effects than other colors. Light blue is the color of water and the sky, so it generally has a refreshing and
free feeling – and can be even energizing if bright enough, while still retaining that reliable calm.
Darker blues tend to be more somber, heightening the security aspects, which makes them an excellent
choice for professionalism. Blue says “Trust me!”
All this comes at a small price, though: blue shouldn't be used for food-related visuals. Because blue
foods aren't common in the wild, studies show that the color actually acts as an appetite suppressant.
6. Purple
Purple has links to wealth and luxury
Luxurious, mysterious, romantic
Western cultures (North America and Europe) Purple is the color of royalty and is often used for the
cloaks and robes of kings and queens in modern movies. It is associated with wealth and fame. It is also
symbolic of modernism and progression. Specifically, in the United States, it is a color of honor; the
military’s highest award is considered to be the Purple Heart.
Eastern and Asian cultures Purple is also a color of wealth and nobility in the East. The exception is in
Thailand, where purple represents mourning, where a widow wears the color after the death of her
husband.
Latin America The theme of sorrow is also evident in South American nations such as Brazil, where
purple is associated with mourning and death.
