Study Section 4: Praying the Lord’s Prayer for Spiritual Breakthrough
4.1 Connect
In my own personal life no other prayer has brought me closer to God than learning to pray
the Lord’s prayer for spiritual breakthrough. In Elmer Towns book on Praying the Lord’s Prayer
for Spiritual Breakthrough, Dr. Yonggi Cho wrote the forward. In the forward he talked about
a conversation he had with Dr. Towns where he told him to teach his readers to pray the
rounds several times each day”. He repeated himself and once again said, “Once is not
enough”. Like a runner who jogs
around and around a racetrack to get
physically fit, he said I pray the rounds
several times each day. I pray that you
will learn to pray the rounds of the
Lord’s prayer and watch your spiritual
fitness grow by leaps and bounds.

practice ignite your prayer life.
3. The student should be able to explain how to look at the world as our Lord does, through kingdom
eyes.
4.3 Introduction
According to Luke’s account of the Lord’s prayer this is the background he gives us which
prompted our Lord to teach on this subject. Luke 11:1 And it came to pass, that, as he was
praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to
pray, as John also taught his disciples. Imagine with me that we were one of his original
followers who were eyewitnesses of all the marvelous things Jesus was doing and teaching. Out
or all the things we could have ask Jesus to teach us more about, the one thing that the disciples
ask for Jesus to elaborate on was prayer. Why did they ask Him to teach them how to pray? Many
believe that they were able to see the intensity and priority of prayer that Jesus practiced. Some say that
they saw the intimacy that Jesus had with the Father and made a connection between prayer and His
power. Other suggest that the disciples looked at their own prayer life and saw such a gap between the
prayer life of Jesus and their own they cried out; Lord teach us how to pray. They also saw an intensity in
the prayers of John’s disciples, and they realized that there was a possibility to experience God in prayer
that they did not have. The greatest argument for the priority of prayer is the fact that our Lord was a
man of prayer and others recognized this fact.
