Personal Spiritual Life
By Dr. Kris Bjorgen
Study Section 1: How Do You Know You Are Going to Heaven?
1.1 Connect.
If someone walked up to you today and asked you this question: “Do you know beyond a
shadow of doubt that you are going to be in heaven when you die?” What would your
answer be. Hopefully you could give Bible reasons for your answer. The world has a twist on
this question. They would say, “Would Saint Peter let you in the gates of Heaven?” They
think of the Apostle Peter as a bearded gate keeper who determines who gets into the gates
and who is rejected. Well, we know from the Bible that these ideas are far from reality.
To begin our study on our personal spiritual walk with God, we have to start at the beginning. And that
beginning is when we discover we are sinners and in need of a Savior. Do you remember that day? Let’s
go back and retrace what you discovered on the day of your salvation….
1.2 Objectives:
1. We will learn about man’s spiritual condition.
2. We will discover that sin has a drastic consequence.
3. We will learn about Christ’s love in becoming our substitute, our Savior.
1.3 How do you know you are going to Heaven?
When you ask most people if they are going to go to heaven when they die, their reply may
be, “I hope so. I’m doing the best I can to be good.” They are under the impression that
God looks at the bad and good things that every person does, places them on a scale, and if
the scale tips toward the good, then God will grant that person admittance into heaven.
But if you read God’s Word, written by God Himself, these people are quite misinformed.
We need to understand clearly what God says about how to be ready to enter eternity.
Man’s Condition
Here is what the Bible says about the good deeds of man:
Isaiah 64.6 We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted
garment. We all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.

Romans 3: 11-18 “None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have
turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one. Their throat is an

open grave; they use their tongues to deceive. The venom of asps is under their lips. Their mouth is full
