that the penalty for sin has been paid for by Jesus’s death on the cross. So in response, we reach out
and receive promises of Jesus Christ to save us from our sins.
Ephesians 2:8-9 …by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the
9
gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Romans 10:9-10 … if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God
raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with
10
the mouth one confesses and is saved.
This course is entitled, Personal Spiritual Life. It is all about developing the spiritual life of Christ in you.
But until you have accepted God’s salvation gift of Jesus Christ by faith, you have no spiritual life. You
are dead in your sins. Spiritual life comes from receiving and believing in Christ. Consider these verses
in the Bible:
John 1:12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children
of God,
John 3:14-17 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted
14
up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his
15
17
only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his
Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
For this course to have any meaning whatsoever for you, you must determine if you have received God’s
gift of eternal life. The Bible calls this the New Birth or being born again. Jesus told Nicodemus, a ruler
of the Jews, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John
3:3). Have you been born again? Was there a time in your life where you can definitely say you
received Christ by faith? If not, now is an excellent time. After all, the Bible says:
2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you
not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!
