2. It is God’s will for you to be filled or controlled by God’s Holy Spirit. The word“filled” means totally
               “dominated by” or “controlled by”.

                                 17
                                                                                                  18
Ephesians 5: 17-21 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do
                                                                                   19
not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another
                                                                                                      20
in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving
thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to
                                                                                              21
one another out of reverence for Christ.

Every believer possesses the Holy Spirit. He comes into the life of a new believer at the moment he puts
his trust and faith in Christ. Paul in Romans 8:9 declares that if the Holy Spirit is not in the person, then
that person is not a believer. Just having the Holy Spirit indwelling you does not necessarily mean you
are being filled by the Spirit. Remember, filling means domination. It is a voluntary act of the will
whereby the believer gives the Holy Spirit total reign or total control in his life. If a Christian allows sin
to be in his life, or he is filled with self, then the Holy Spirit takes a back seat. He is no longer being
controlled or filled with the Spirit of God. So filling means confessing sin, and a willingness to allow the
Holy Spirit to control and direct your life in any way He so chooses. The spirit-filled life is nothing more
than saturation with the person of Christ. It is yielding one’s self to the Savior.

               3. God’s will is that you be sanctified. So what does that mean? It means that God wants you to be set
apart from the world and be holy, as He is holy.

I Thessalonians 4:3-6 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual

                                                                                                 5
                          4
immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the
passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God; that no one transgress and wrong his brother in
                                                                6
this matter, because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as we told you beforehand and solemnly
               warned you.

It is God’s will that you be pure. He wants you to be saved, Spirit-filled, and sanctified. By pure, God
says in this verse that He wants us to be free from sexual immorality. He wants us to control our body
which is dedicated to sanctification (set apartness) and honor. We are to honor the Lord in our body,
especially in the area of sexual desires.

               4. God’s will is that we be submissive to one another. We are to be submissive to those in authority
over us. And we are to submit to one another. Wives are to submit to the headship of their husband.
Husbands are to submit to the needs of their wives. Children are to submit to the leadership of their
               parents.

I Peter 2:13 Be subject for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as
               supreme…

               5. It is God’s will that you suffer for him.

I Peter 4:19 Therefore let those who suffer according to God's will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator
               while doing good.

Peter says that you’re going to suffer according to the will of God. When you live a godly life in an
ungodly society, you are going to get some flack. Jesus suffered because of His goodness; He brought
