1. Since the sedimentary layers were laid down over millions of years, so they should cover the entire
earth uniformly. All the layers should be present, unless cataclysmically disturbed (over thrusts, plate
shifting, etc.)
2. The layer before life evolved should be completely void of any kind of fossil.
3. Each layer should be filled with unique and unusual plants and animals in all stages of evolutionary
change, most of which we could not even classify into any one group. We would call these unique
fossils “links” between the evolution of the thousands of species of plants and animals today. We
should see half-fish – half-amphibians or half-amphibians and half-reptiles or half-reptiles and half-birds.
We should see millions of these strange and unique fossils.
OK, now if Creation is true, and there really was a flood, what should the fossil record look like?
1. Since the sedimentary layers were laid down in one year, they should cover the entire earth but not
necessarily uniformly. There will be an absence of layers in some areas and rarely would you find all the
layers in one location.
2. The layer before the flood would contain a few, but not many fossils, as fossilization was not
occurring before the flood.
3. There should be an abrupt appearance of all types of animals in the layers, however, the deeper the
layer, the animals would be smaller and less mobile. As you rise in the layers, you will find fewer and
fewer fossils. You will find very few if any human bones, as they are the most likely group to escape
death until towards the end of the flood. Decaying human bodies bloat in water, which would cause
them to float and decompose rapidly.
4. The order of the fossils will be somewhat mixed, however, the lower the smaller, the higher the
larger. The remains would be sorted by density just as the rocks were. If not buried, the carcass would
rot or be scavenged.
5. We should find marine fossils all over the world, even on the highest mountains (since all the earth
was covered with water).
6. The children of Noah, and their children, and so on should have passed down stories of their
salvation provided by God through the Flood.
