Study Section 5: Why Study the Bible?
5.1 Connect.
Satan is the enemy of every believer! He hates us. He will do anything and everything he
can to derail us from walking with Christ daily. He does not want us to serve the Lord and he
hates it when we share the Gospel with others. Satan is very busy doing what he can to get
to get you to think the world’s thoughts rather than God’s thoughts (His Word). And, as you
will see, he is very successful at it. Today we are going to look at some very harmful beliefs
that have crept into the minds of those in the household of faith which are truly contrary to
the Bible. Let’s get started.
5.2 Objectives.
1. The student should be able to explain why it is so important to study the Bible on a daily basis.
2. The student should be able to describe several confusing philosophies that people believe that
some in the church have incorporated into their belief system.
5.3 Why study the Bible?
It is God’s Book to us….God took the time to write it…we need to take the time to read it.
It has the answers to all the major questions of life.
1. Where did I come from?
2. Why am I here?
3. Where am I going?
4. How do I know the truth?
You are on a Journey toward Eternity.
Along the way, you are going to be hit with some ideas that will lead in the wrong direction. You should
be warned of the wrong ways! But how do we know the right direction to take from the wrong
direction?
God has given us His Word to guide us in the right way! Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my
feet and a light for my path.”
Before we begin our journey, let’s look at some false philosophies (wrong way signs) that Satan will
attempt to get you to accept, in order to cause you to stray from the Truth. Col. 2:8 says, “See to it that
no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition
and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.” We need to be aware of some false
directions!
