Study Section 4: Importance of Biblical Accuracy

                4.1 Connect.

Perhaps you are a pastor or teacher of a class in your church. Did you know that God is going
to hold you up to a new standard of judgment if you teach something that is not according to
what God presented in the Bible? In a position like this, you are accountable for what you
share. It had better be EXACTLY what God said in his word, or you are in BIG trouble. Today
we will investigate why this is….

               4.2 Objectives.

                       1. The student should be able to describe that God uses Scripture in our lives to teach, reprove,
correct, and train us to become more like Christ.

                       2. The student should be able to describe God’s standards for one who teaches His Word to
                       others.

               3. The student should be able to describe Bible literacy in today’s world and see the importance of
teaching His Word to others to resolve these issues.

4.3 The Importance of Rightly Dividing God’s Word

II Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture isinspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof,
for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be
                                                                 17
adequate, equipped for every good work.

This verse makes it very clear that the Bible is God’s very words to us and that is it important
to us in four major ways. First, it is valuable for teaching ourselves and others. We are to teach
doctrinal truth that helps us know how to think the right thoughts about God, man, the world, etc.
Without God’s guidance we would be lost in a sea of philosophies.

Second, God’s Word is important to us to reprove us. His Word convicts us of our wrong thoughts and
ways. God’s Spirit not only teaches about what is truth but also helps us be aware when we have not
properly responded to that truth (doctrine). For example, we might learn that man is made in the image
of God: he has a conscience. If we mistreat our wives, then we will sense the Holy Spirit making us
aware of our pang of guilt. More than this, He tells us the reason we feel such a way when we have
yelled at our wives. “And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin, and righteousness,
               and judgment” (John 16:8).

God’s Word corrects us. It straightens us up and brings us back to the standard. God through the
ministry of the Holy Spirit is not only interested in telling us of our wrong actions and motivations, He is
there to build us up. The Spirit again uses the Word of God to build us up back to where we should be.
Here we can see the difference between the Spirit and the evil one. The evil one would keep us feeling
guilty so that we give up, while the Spirit of God encourages us through teachings about forgiveness and
restoration how to find His peace. He straightens out our perspective about things.
