Study Section 15: “Words from One Pastor to Another”
15.1 Connect
When a person is at his death bed and he says his last words, generally those words are important
to him. They often summarize his life and faith or lack thereof. Here are some last words said by
very famous people:
“I am still in the land of the dying; I shall be in the land of the living soon.”
― John Newton
“Now comes the mystery!”
― Henry Ward Beecher
“I die the king's faithful servant, but God's first.”
― Thomas More
“See earth receding; heaven is opening. God is calling me.”
― D. L. Moody
“I am abandoned by God and man! I will give you half of what I am worth if you will give me six months life.
Then I shall go to hell; and you will go with me. O Christ! O Jesus Christ!”
― Voltaire
In this study we just want to give you, our student, a few last and important words of encouragement. If you are
in the ministry, please accept these last words as a challenge to you to not give up, to grow in Christ, and to lead
others in their walk toward eternity.
15.2 Objectives
1. In this short lesson, the student should be able to describe the five final last words of
encouragement that every pastor needs.
15.3 Conclusion
“Words from One Pastor to Another”
Of all the words in the English language perhaps none is as
ambiguous today in interpretation and application as the word
“pastor.” It is not that no one knows what a pastor is and does. It
is that if we were to question everyone, we would likely find a
profusion of differing role pictures and expectations.
