16. Be Open and Honest.
• Servant Leadership is based on absolute truth and honesty.
• Real people don’t hide things. You are the same person in public that you are in private.
• You are at your best when you are not trying to become someone else.
• Don’t pretend to be someone you are not.
17. Always Respond When People Contact You.
• Return phone calls.
• Answer emails.
• It will enhance your relationships and will bring great reward as it sharpens your discipline.
18. Build Strong Relationships.
• Teamwork, network and co-workers are the key to achievement.
• We need each other in ministry in order to last.
• Build strong relationships with your people and with your staff or lay leaders.
19. Lead by Example.
• You cannot lead people to do what you do not do yourself.
• People will follow you if you lead the way in your own life and actions.
• Always be teachable.
20. When You’re Wrong, Admit it!
21. Be a Grateful Person
• Remember the best and forget the rest! That will nurture a grateful attitude.
“Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving.”
Colossians 4:2
• The attitude of gratitude is the source of a happy life.
22. Don’t be Disloyal.
• Beyond personal faith in Christ, the number one quality I look for in a co-worker is loyalty.
• A disloyal individual will destroy the effectiveness of everyone who serves with them.
• To speak negatively in public about a co-worker undermines the ministry and destroys the confidence of
others in the church.
23. Don’t Take Criticism Personally or Believe all the Praise you Get.
• Both pose a dangerous trap for us.
• Don’t get caught up in either.
• Don’t believe everything you hear about yourself.
