Strong Black Women | Intimacy
INTIMACY
Many scholarly studies of the Strong Black Woman archetype have revealed
the forgoing of intimate relationships for the sake of our children, the sake of
our careers, and or because there appear to be no “good black men” on our
level to partner with. There is also the misnomer that we as Black Women
“Don’t Need No Man” In my view, nothing could be further from the truth.
The majority of us desire to be intimate with another. We must first become
truly intimate with ourselves before we can create an intimacy with a partner.
Can we be so intimate with ourselves that are willing to allow our experiences
with intimacy to be unguarded? What is our passion? What do we desire? Are
we comfortable enough to ask for what we want because we know we
deserve it? Do we feel guilt, shame or make apologies for honoring our needs
and desires?
