LORD Jesus Christ, thou overflowing Fountain
of all mercy, behold, I thy wretched and
unhappy creature return once more to thee, and
accuse myself in the bitterness of my soul that I have not
kept my resolutions, but have again fallen into my
former sins; that I have served thee with extreme
negligence, and have been lukewarm and careless in my

devotion to thee and love of thee; that I have too much
entangled myself in vain and transitory things, and have
far too eagerly sought earthly and hurtful pleasures; and
that in these and innumerable other ways I have many
times offended thee, the sweetest Spouse of my soul. And
although thine essential blessedness, O my God, can
neither be increased nor diminished, because thou canst
have no need of me or of my goods, nevertheless my
sinful and careless life does in some sort tend to the
notable prejudice of thy honour and glory. Thou
knowest, O my God, what sorrow I now have, or at least
what sorrow I ought to have, in my heart for all these my
sins. Wherefore, O most tender Father, I confess to thee
with most bitter contrition of heart all those sins whereof
thou knowest me to be guilty; most humble beseeching
