in the locker when cruising in the tropics. Sunlight will eventually weaken
all modern fiber rope.
Reverse your genoa sheets at the midpoint of each season to take persis¬
tent strain off the sheet lead section. All-rope halyards will benefit from
the same treatment.
To store well-rinsed, dry rope you can make up a furling-line coil as

shown in the drawing or, better still, let it fall loosely onto some battens
that keep it off the floor or hull and allow air to circulate around it.
