The Scottish rigger Leonard Popple has written about rope as “God’s
most ambrosial gift to sailors.” To make it so, it must be cared for and few
are the boats outside racing that can pride themselves on good, supple
lines. Remember also that a reliable knot needs to be pushed, tugged, and
gently persuaded into position. To make this task easy,, you need good,
welhcared-for rope.
