The Constrictor Knot
On stepping over to Glove Trotter’s orange deck before its perilous
chicken delivery (which was successfully effected), I noted a fine demon¬
stration of the constrictor knot in the cord that lashed the neck of the deck
pump. The canvas scoop was held bravely by the knot shown. It can be
applied whenever a tenacious grip is needed.
Mr. Michael Vinnicombe claims it can be used instead of “jubilee clips”
(hose clamps) in emergencies.
To get sufficient purchase, you will probably need to wind the ends of
the cords around pegs of wood.
When contemplating this kind of knot, remember that soft and stretchy
lines tie better around a hard object like a mast or stanchion than does a
stiff rope.
