A letter from Bertie Bloomer dropped in recently. He wrote:
“The return trip from the Ionian was rather marred by an unfortunate
accident in the middle of the night 100 miles from the nearest land and
180 miles from Malta.
“We were hit on the stem by a freighter in spite of all that my one crew
and myself could do to avoid her. I am quite certain that he was on auto-
