Into the Cosmos

             Meter makers
             Meet their maker
             Making meters
             To make them meet.

This word-shuffle portrays both the irony of poetic justice and
the psychology of anthropomorphic theology. Authoritarian and
judgmental personalities create gods in their own image; the round
of heavenly damnation and earthly condemnation becomes a vicious
circle ending in witch-hunts and inquisitions. Medieval European
(and contemporary Asian) visions of hell are authentic documents of
penal history, punishments misfitting crimes only in their
pedagogical exaggeration. Modern man, obsessed by stochastic
reductionism and quantifiable behaviorism, deserves a
commensurating deity. Unfortunately, the quality of mercy has yet to
be analyzed into a string of bits.
