Introduction

Section 3: Into the World

This group of poems encompasses several fields of human
endeavor, including politics, sociology, business, and the arts. It also
includes a few observations on natural phenomena. The subject
matter to a large extent perforce reflects Gluckman’s own
experience in the world, making this section less general than the
others. The first pieces deal with this topic rather theoretically, but
they are mercifully few in number.

Section 4: Into the Cosmos

Here I am lumping together a wide range of Gluckman’s theoretical
and speculative subject matter. The focus of the first section was on
the half-hidden world within the human head; now the external (but
still mysterious) universe is considered. Following some purely
scientific and philosophical epigrams, I present some of the author’s
works dealing with metaphysics, mysticism, theology, religion, and
eschatology.
