PERKINSON: But, but, everybody else was moving around, too.
That lady there (points to Peabody): she was in front of me
PEABODY: You lying little whippersnapper! You pushed me out of
the way so you could get in ahead of me. Is that any way to treat a
defenseless old woman?
METCALF: Hold it, hold it, everyone! Let me thank the brain trust
for their invaluable suggestions. Now, we’ll do it my way: I’m going
to search everyone for that poison.
PEABODY: You’ll not lay a hand on me, you demons! (swings at
Metcalf with her purse) Get thee away from me, Satan!
MACALLISTER: (intercedes, calms Peabody down) Now, now, calm
down, Miss Peabody. Nobody’s going to hurt you.
GROSS: Please, if your attention to a detail of relevance I could call.
(all stop, look at him) Incrimination things on board I do not think
you will find. Everyone to the washroom a visit has made. Once
there an easy matter it is to dispose of objects of small dimension.
METCALF: Eh? How’s that?
GROSS: On this type of dirigible empties out the water closet
directly into the air. Our waste products, so to speak, are the ocean in
deep now.
OGLETHORPE: You see, he does know an awful lot about this
ship! I think you ought to tind out what he’s doing here, Metcalf,
instead of harassing us innocent American citizens.
METCALF: Here we go again! Would everyone please sit down and
leave me to do my job my own way? (they sit) Thank you! Now, Herr
Gross, would you please step into the cockpit for a moment?
GROSS: I do not from agents of the United States government
orders take; this before have I told you.
METCALF: (sweetly) Of course. I have already granted that my
investigations are on a purely informal basis, since we are outside
