Murder on the Dirigible
MACALLISTER: Please, Captain. Don’t interfere!
METCALF: Shut up, Miss Murderess. What the hell are you trying
to say, Matthews?
MATTHEWS: You’ve got to let her go. I’m your man.
METCALF: This is really screwy. (looks from one suspect to the
other) Well, her story is a little thin. What’s yours?
MATTHEWS: I had to shut him up. He was going to blow the
whistle on me. I’ve had some financial problems and I took money
from Oglethorpe’s father in return for making the company look bad.
I delayed flights and arrived late deliberately to make passengers
frustrated. That was supposed to cut down the return fares and lose
money.
METCALF: Just a minute. Oglethorpe: can you confirm that?
OGLETHORPE: Me? I’m innocent! I don’t know what my father
does behind the scenes: the business world is a jungle, everyone
knows that.
MACALLISTER: (glares at Oglethorpe) You skunk!
METCALF: Quiet! Go on, Captain. Tell us what you did.
MATTHEWS: I—I knew Fisk had found out about me, so—
METCALF: How did you know he knew?
MATTHEWS: I heard him asking Miss MacAllister about me.
METCALF: Very interesting.
MATTHEWS: So I knew, you see, that he would expose me at the
meeting to scare the others into selling out. I couldn’t afford to let
that happen.
METCALF: Where did you get the golf tee and the poison?
