METCALF: This is too much. This is the third confession I’ve had
to listen to. Why should I believe yours more than the captain’s or
Miss MacAllister’s?
POMELLO: Because I wasn’t as smart as Mr. Gross. (reaches in
clothes) I didn’t throw the bottle down the toilet. I thought I might
need it again. And I was right. Ouch! Here it is: don’t put any on
your fingernail and scratch yourself, the way I just did. It might be
fatal. (Metcalf takes bottle) Goodbye, Oscar. Take good care of your
girl: she deserves it. (sits down heavily, slumps)

Stagecraft note: spotlighting will solve the problem of overlapping
conversations on different parts of the stage.
