In a cat's eye we've jealousy
Given its color; zealously
Know demons by her pupil; think
Contentment is a soft slow wink.
Sworn to stay in the here and now,
I sometimes wander from that vow;
Then kitty does get cross with me—
My mistress of philosophy.
A cat’s no mere amenity
In the garden: serenity
Radiates while she’s in repose,
Wilderness when she’s on her toes.
Are you the cat of my old age?
Or will my home be a cold cage
For your hot blood and free spirit?
Let me know: I hope I hear it.
