The Big Idea – Act 2

RIVAL 1: Oh, shut up, you fool! Now, we’ll have to take a different
course of action. But not here, not now. Let’s go back down the hill
and talk with the chief. I have a plan. (they exit)

UTOPIAN: (after calming hubbub)
My friends, I’m glad you all have seen the light,
And recognized the answer to our plight;

Now with our new-found energy and will,
It won’t be hard to exercise our skill

In building that for which the need is clear:
A shelter lasting longer than a year;

Decision made, let us get underway
On The Big Idea without delay!

(all exit left, except HALFWITS)

HALFWIT 1: Let’s go where the others are bound.

HALFWIT 2: My hope is still that food can be found.

HALFWIT 3: Why are we just standing around?

HALFWIT 1: Because the meeting’s over now.

HALFWIT 2: And we shall have to keep our vow.

HALFWIT 3: Ah, but do we really know how?

HALFWIT 1: Whatever they do, so shall we.

HALFWIT 2: That’s right: we have eyes, we can see.

HALFWIT 3: Is that the answer to my plea?

HALFWIT 1: At last we’ve got the order straight.

HALFWIT 2: Meet, decide, discuss: yes, that’s great!

HALFWIT 3: Will anyone mind that we’re late?

(they exit left)
