Page 37 - Lulu and Bob in Verbo City
P. 37
So Lulu was not immune to competitive pressure after all! Thus
inspired, Bunster adopted another ploy: he would stare intently at her
until she first met his gaze, then was hypnotized by it, and finally
could not resist his will sufficiently to draw her next card. That would
do it!
“Murray murmured, ‘more marmalade.’ Murray murmured, ‘more
marmalade.’ Murray murmured, ‘more marmalade.’” And then he
turned his laser-like stare upon his niece.
Noting at last his adversary’s unceasing attempts to win by guile
and sabotage, Bob felt a rising tide of resentment in his craw. Wait a
minute! he told himself; don’t tighten up just when you need to be
loose! After my turn I’ll try subliminal sonority on good old Uncle
Bunster and give him a taste of his own medicine!
“Garbo got her garb all garbled. Garbo got her garb all garbled.
