Page 34 - Lulu and Bob in Verbo City
P. 34
Uncle Bunster began to doubt his decision to take on the twins in
this contest: a year ago, he was certain, he would have won hands
down, probably in the first or second round. The trouble was that the
little smart-alecks were smartening up alacritously between visits and
he hadn’t taken sufficient note of the phenomenon. He grimly
grasped the top card on his greatly diminished pile.
“Sasquatch watched squaws wash squat squash. Sasquatch
watched squaws wash squat squash. Sasquatch watched squaws wash
squat squash.”
Bob, after a sidelong peek at Lulu, was confirmed in his attitude:
their only hope was not to get rattled. They could compete at
Bunster’s level. And if their uncle believed they could be put off their
game by his antics—well, he’d have to get another strategy.
“Three-toed tree toad. Three-toed tree toad. Three-toed tree
toad.”
