The Cuttlefish Man
The door unlocked; he pulled it open wide,
And his two most monstrous arms snaked inside,
Where they twisted like a wrench on a nut:
That ancient valve must have been rusted shut.
Then—a violent jerk—and there came through
A loud gurgling noise like wind in a flue!
He ripped off the handle and flung it down;
As it sank I thought: that’s how I would drown.
