I soon ascertained that no one was there;
If they had gone home—well, I didn’t care!
Now at last I would get a chance to look
At things I had only seen in a book.

So joyfully I ran over to try
The eyepiece—but it was up much too high:

I searched in vain for a platform or stool;
Nothing was of use—I felt like a fool.
