The Outsourcer’s Apprentice
“Ah, all well and good, Tommy, at least on the theoretical plane.
But what does it mean for Palltree and Blythe?”
Young Vasek blinked.
“Why, isn’t it obvious? I’m sorry, I guess, but I thought you all
knew. Interoffice mail is rather slow, isn’t it? Anyway, P&B is
outsourcing all its functions, effective next week. Each of us will be
given the choice of working for the low-bid contractor—formerly
our competitor—Curson-Newhouse, or seeking positions elsewhere.
Those who remain at their desks will, of course, receive whatever
compensation and benefits CN makes available to their contract
labor; I have no idea what that might be. But P&B will show an
immediate improvement on the bottom line, making all those
holding its stock—and I do have a nice piece of the company, now—
very happy, indeed. Any questions?”
