observed that strategy in action, and have chosen to counter it by not
        initiating the contest? If he, the elder, obliged the challenger by taking
        off after him, then the difference in age became more significant; the
        old bull knew he’d lost a few steps and had been trying to hide it. But
        how long could he ignore the rebel’s display? It was tantamount to
        admitting he’d met his match and would have to retire from the field.
        But he stood his ground, as well, loosing occasional thunderous roars
        to show he was still in the game.
          While the aurochs were thus occupied, two lionesses quietly stalked
        the slowest and weakest member of the herd. They did not care if it
        were young or old.
