Uncle was clearly becoming distraught.
              “Nothing,” he muttered, “worked out how I thought.
              Things were supposed to get better with time:
              People more civil, less conflict and crime.”

              “Science would solve all the problems we had;
              Voters would rid us of leaders so bad
              They could start wars just for glory and loot,
              Letting big industries parch and pollute.”

              “We should use gadgetry where it pertains—
              Not as distraction that softens our brains.
              History hasn’t played out the best way:
              Retrograde motion is what now holds sway.”
