Cantus firmus

                  Plumbing noises mistaken for music,

                  The sound effects of nature enchant us;

                  We can steal them for a song or blues lick,

                  Copyrighting terra firma’s cantus.

                                Snow’s fall

                       Frozen grins on flakes unique
                       Melting show as mirth misplaced:
                       Water loses all mystique
                       When it is by earth embraced.

                             Requiem for a wildfire

                     Dead for decades, last rites deferred:
                     Lumber must wait to be interred
                     Jointly with its uncut cousins
                     When fire burns them in the dozens.
