For a few seconds the ground-level audience quietly digested the
rather thin fare offered by Levi’s oration. Then Eddie Puss flipped
over and fixed Billy Bob with a glazed and gleaming stare.
“Starving!” he snarled. “Bite your belly! Eat your ears!”
Billy Bob, already on the alert, sprang sideways just as Eddie
charged. The albino deftly dodged the slashing fangs and claws
whirling wildly in his direction and hopped the fence in a flash.
The malfunctioning memory cells in Eddie’s battered brain
suddenly kicked in and stopped him cold: the last time he had
attempted to chase Billy Bob over the fence his bum leg betrayed him
and he had landed on the sprung coil of an abandoned mattress.
Eddie twitched and turned, seeking another cause for his unappeased
appetite.
