Lung and Heart (Richards-Leigh)

Scary tales do come true, it can happen to you,
         To your lung and heart.
If you smoke cigarettes, you will soon have regrets,
         For your lung and heart.

You can lie to yourself, hide the pack on a shelf,
You can laugh at the truth but you’re wasting your youth.
And life gets ever shorter with each passing day,
And plaque is either in your heart or on its way.

Don’t you know without breath you will face early death,
         Of your lung and heart?
For as cute as you are they will find a glass jar
         For your lung and heart.

Fat chance you will survive much beyond fifty-five,
Doctors cannot contrive to get you to revive.
         Then here comes the crash cart, look at your bed chart;
Better not be hung up with your lung and heart.

I’ve Grown a Cancer on my Face (Lerner-Loewe)

I’ve grown a cancer on my face.
The doctor wants to cut it off.
I’ve grown a cancer on my nose and watch it as it grows.
It’s big, it’s red, it dwarfs my head.

A scalpel probing me will find
Its blood supply and shut it off.
I was unfortunately fond of surf and sun before it grew,
Surely I could safely get a tan again and yet
I’ve grown a cancer on my skin, a cancer on my nose,
         A cancer on my face.

I’m very grateful that my surgeon is from Harvard and a pro.
He’s a sushi chef and he could teach my mom to sew.
I’ve grown a cancer to replace the nostrils that were there,
         A cancer on my face.
