Nobles and priests
If you came from a noble family, chances are your dad would have a job helping to run the country. Priests were responsible for pleasing the gods – the last thing anyone wanted was a grumpy god!

Scribes were highly respected because they had a very handy skill: they could read and write, which meant they could keep government records. The fact that you’re reading this book means you’re already pretty scribey.
Servants and Slaves
Life was tough at the bottom of the heap. Prisoners of war became slaves and were forced to work very hard for the pharaoh or nobles. You really wouldn’t want to be at this end of the pyramid.
