The sun is in the middle of the solar system – the Earth and all the planets listed below move around the sun, and the moon moves around the Earth.
Constellation of the Month
Canis Major, or the ‘Great Dog’,
can be seen this month. It chases Orion, the ‘Hunter’, across the sky. To find it, look for Sirius, the ‘Dog Star’. In fact, this is two stars very close together which is why it is so bright. It is one of the closest stars to Planet Earth.
The full moon in February was known by Native American tribes as the Snow Moon because
the heaviest snows often fell in February.
