Small birds are hungry at this time of year. They need to eat all day to get enough food to keep them going through the winter. You can help by making your own treats for the birds using food scraps from home.
You don’t need to spend a lot of money on fancy feeders or a beautiful bird table. You’ll need to buy the bird seed and nuts, but if you buy a big sack from a garden centre it is cheaper than buying small quantities, and it will last a long time. You can also use a surprising amount of food scraps that are easy to find at home. Raisins, sultanas, other dried fruit or unsalted nuts go down well with any wild bird.
