You will need:
a large empty patch of soil a sapling (a baby tree)
a spade/trowel
mulch
Dig a hole three times as wide as the ball of roots at the bottom of the sapling.
Place the tree inside the hole, keeping the trunk straight, then fill the hole back in with soil.
Put a layer of mulch around the tree to keep water in and weeds away. Watch that the layer isn’t too thick – it should be about the thickness of your shoe.
How to Plant a Tree
Trees are home to birds, squirrels, butterflies and other wildlife. They make oxygen, which is what we breathe in. Trees are good for all of us!
The best time to plant trees in the UK is October to February, as long as the ground is not too frozen. Make sure you choose the right kind of tree for your space: it needs room to grow.
