Terrific Terrariums
When it’s wet and cold outside, why not bring the garden inside? These tiny gardens in jars and bowls are called terrariums. Will you make a Jurassic jungle jumping with dinosaurs or a flowery, fern-filled fairyland?
You will need:
a very large, clean, dry glass jar (at least 20 cm tall) or other clear glass container such as a small fish bowl
a few small plants that like plenty of moisture and bright, indirect light (see examples at the bottom of the page)
a few handfuls of pea gravel
activated filtering charcoal
potting soil teaspoon
clean spray bottle of water
shells, twigs, or tiny toys
Best plants for terrariums:
Succulents might look super in an open terrarium, but it can be really tricky to keep them happy and healthy, so it’s best for beginners to stick to this list – or use other moisture-loving plants!
