Finally, it would be disposed of, perhaps by feeding it to animals at the emperor’s zoo. It is also thought that if a warrior captured a prisoner who was sacrificed, he could then eat parts of the body as part of the ritual, but it’s not known if this was something that happened often. Probably best sticking to a nice carrot or a pepperoni pizza.

Oh, there were also skull racks outside temples, so after the sacrifice the head could be popped there for show. Some racks were said to have up to 60,000 skulls in them. Which is a LoT of skulls.
If all that isn’t enough to make you NeVeR want to get in a time machine back to Aztec times, you’re weirder than you look.
Strangely enough, to most of those who were on the receiving end of the priests’ daggers, being sacrificed was seen as a great hOnOuR! The Aztecs believed it guaranteed they would go to the great paradise where the sun god lived in the afterlife, rather than on the unpleasant journey to
Mictlan, the underworld that awaited most others.

It was thought that those who went to the sun god´s paradise became creatures such as hummingbirds or butterflies after four years. Sounds lovely – as long as the gods didn´t get confused and turn them into either butter or flies, neither of which are good options.
