The maquahuitl was an Aztec sword and was a fEaRsOmE weapon used
by most warriors. It didn’t look much like a sword – it was more like a cricket bat. But unlike cricket bats
it was studded round the edges with RaZoR ShArP bLaDeS of obsidian and was absolutely lEtHaL.
So if you’d rather the most deadly thing your dad has to face is a DoDgY bUrGeR from the food van near his work, say a big old “thank you” that you live now and not then.
Hey guys! When does the game start?
How many times have we told you? You CANNOT bat with that!
   How rude.
Though he had a tiny army to begin with, Cortes made alliances with local peoples
who were willing to fight the Aztecs. When the Spanish marched on Tenochtitlán, the emperor, Moctezuma II, let them in to the city at first . . . bad move. He was taken prisoner by Cortes and his men and later died, though it’s not entirely clear how.
After his death, a great battle broke out. The Aztecs, though brave and fierce warriors,
were no match for the Spanish weapons and metal armour, or the new kinds of disease that ravaged them. Slingshots and swords couldn’t compete with muskets and cannons.
Tens of thousands of Aztecs died defending Tenochtitlán, and many millions more died over the following years from diseases introduced by the Spanish. These illnesses were completely new to the locals, which meant their bodies couldn’t fight them off. It was a tragic and brutal end to a great civilisation.
Well I think we look lovely.
