With the Romans being pretty wordy characters, their records provide the first written history of the Celts of Britain.
Joolz Caesar said the Britons were fearsome warriors who charged into battle on chariots. He wrote, “All the Britons paint themselves with woad (dye made from a flower), which produces a dark blue colour, and for this reason they are much more frightful in appearance in battle.”
So if your dad appeared looking like a fReAkY bLuE AlIeN, it probably meant he was off to do a spot of battling.
If you want to shake up the opposition at your next school netball match, simply grab some blue paint and get all Celtic on your face.
Have you two been in my woad cupboard again?
No way! What makes you think that?
That is SO unfair!
