Adam-6 asks Adam-2 for his help in ending the war and defeating the humans but Adam-2 is not sure - instead he asks that they attempt to forge a peace between the two sides. Adam-6 reluctantly agrees and suggests that Adam- 2 recover medicines from a research lab outside of the city, which could be given as a peace offering to the humans.Adam-2 agrees and goes to the lab with a team lead by Red Sky.The lab is heavily protected but their mission is a success and they return with the medicine, and a peace treaty is arranged that will be hosted on neutral territory by the Cailleach.
Adam-2 and Linden are taken to the treaty with the robots, where they are reunited with Runa, Della, Callum and the other humans.The treaty begins well and each side cautiously begins talks. However, that night Adam discovers that the humans have no intention of negoti- ating a peace with the robots – they have brought the Midnight device with them and Callum wants Adam to trigger it at the summit, killing all of the robots present.
Adam leaves – only to discover that the robots also plan on betraying the other side: he learns that the true pur- pose of the trip to the research lab was to recover a vial of smallpox, which the robots plan on releasing, wiping out all of the remaining humans.Adam steals the small- pox vial and escapes the robots – but Runa is injured in the process.
