During the Ming dynasty, the Grand Canal was made bigger and better than ever before, including building new canal locks. It took more than three million
to build the canal and half of them died from the hard work.
Wealthy people had beautifully decorated boats and they enjoyed travelling along the canal in them. There were also water taxis which took people from one side to the other.
