Golden oriole
A brightly coloured but secretive bird that lives in the high canopy. It migrates to the UK in early summer to escape the hot summers of Africa and Western Asia.

The noise made by this summer migrant is often described as one of the most beautiful sounds in nature. Their rich song can be heard at any time of the day or night.

Humpback whale
A large whale with a bumpy snout and very large flippers, which it uses to swim and steer. It is very noisy and sings to communicate. It jumps out of the water and dives back in – this is called ‘breaching’.
These crested birds are partial migrants. Some of them migrate short distances if the weather gets very cold, while others remain near to their nesting grounds.
