Reason To Sing
make sense. I have been trying to figure out a puzzle for a few
weeks now. It began when I came home early one Friday night.
I heard noises downstairs in the rec room. When I went to see
who was there, I was most surprised to find Mike sitting next
to a lovely woman, on the love seat no less! He never goes
down to the rec room by himself!
He looked pretty darned surprised because I was home so
early. But he jumped right in. “Well, look who’s home early?
Did you get all your kissing in already?” He’s forever teasing
me about boys.
“No, I wasn’t doing any of that!” I could tell he was a
bit nervous. But not really, because nothing ever bothers his
conscience.
“Honey, I want you to meet Evelyn”. He gazed at her
proudly. “She’s in the horse world and we’ve just been discussing
her business. We’re just about finished here.”
Yeah right - the horse business! More like the BS business if you
ask me.
“It’s nice to meet you, Evelyn.” I smiled demurely. Of
course, I was my sweet polite self. She seemed nice enough.
“Nice to meet you too, Kelita.” I wondered how she knew
my name. I guess he told her he was now father to two teenage
girls. Strange that he introduced her as someone who was in
the horse business. And they were discussing horses? Hmmm
… horsing around maybe!
The whole encounter did not sit well with me, at all.
Number one, he was in the cattle business and not the horse
business and two, my mother was barely cold in the ground!
And now another piece of the puzzle. These tousled sheets!
I am no dummy. I may only be 15 but my female intuition
has experience in these matters. I have been a sleuth my entire
life. Out of necessity. And now here is that feeling again, the
