Book Club Questions

            5. Discuss the structure of the memoir. (First person, present
tense, chronological “voice of the age Kelita was at in the
moment”. Prologue “How did I get here?”

How did you find the memoir’s structure, from the initial
voice of an innocent child to the ultimate voice of a mature
woman? Did the ‘present tense’ narrative help you feel more
            connected to the story?

            6. Through her lifetime, what were some of Kelita’s reasons to
sing? How is music a relief, escape, healing?

How could music be a release, escape or healing tool for
someone who is not a musician? What other forms of
expression could produce the same result?

            7. Can you personally relate to the author’s life or any of the
               events in her life? Explain.

How many (if any) of the events in the author’s life could you
relate to? Was it interesting to read about the ‘road life’ of a
traveling musician? Or did you prefer the ‘real life’ stories?

            8. What was the most disturbing chapter in the memoir?

And were you able to understand its merit in the narrative
            journey?

            9. What was most uplifting to you in the memoir?

Were you able to immediately log on to Kelita’s decision to
forgive her husband’s adultery or did you feel she was too
            merciful?
