LexisNexis is legally required to provide you with a free copy
of your credit report from their files. Unfortunately , it doesn ’t
always like to do so. LexisNexis has been known to occasionally
refuse to send people free reports , claiming that they did not
provide sufficient verification to prove their identity.
For this reason, it is recommended that you order your Lexis-
Nexis report via registered mail, or with a return receipt request,
to ensure that your request for your report and your report itself
are both safe, secure, and thoroughly documented . It is also
recommended that you keep a date stamped copy of your
request.
If LexisNexis doesn’t want to provide your free report, it may
be necessary to cite your copy of your request and your return
receipts proving that LexisNexis did receive your request as
evidence to push them to send you your report.
LexisNexis will also request the following types of identifica-
tion to prove that you are yourself and are therefore entitled to a
free report on yourself:
Your government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s
license or state ID card.
A current bank or credit card statement providing
proof of your current address.
Your Social Security Card.
For more information about how to access your LexisNexis
report , you can visit the website listed in this footnote and its
associated links.1
