CHAPTER 5
T
he next morning, while I was doing my chores downstairs,
Mom came from her room all smiley.
“So, Charlie, I was thinking—maybe we could go out today.
We could go to that ‘Swiss Chalet’ restaurant you always wanted to
visit, and while we’re at it, you could buy some stuff for school
tomorrow at the mall. Hmm?”
I was a little bit surprised. I mean, this week, she and Dad kept on
fighting, and she’d been sad all day. So it was really weird—and
unusual—that she was giving me this favor.
But I was still pleased. “Um, okay, that’s great! I’d love to.”
“OK. After you finish your chores, go get ready, and then we can
go.”
After I finished my shower, I decided to go for a more mature,
teenage look. I was definitely channeling the vibe of my favorite
influencer, Emma Chamberlain. I parted my hair into two sections and
styled it in its naturally wavy texture—it always curled up whenever I
scrunched it.
My outfit leaned more grown–up this time: a basic, fitted white tee
paired with light blue, flared pants. The lace–up ankle boots were from
Zara and totally pulled the whole look together.
