SESSION 8
I
n the preceding verses, of session 7, we recall how the
Bridegroom-King has seen the awakened hunger in her heart for
Him. He sees her new level of determined surrender, and it
delights His heart. We must never forget that our earnest desire to yield
to the Lord—even if we don’t always succeed—is a love melody to
Him. He knows we are weak. He knows our feeble frames, and He
knows that it is He alone who can give us the desire and the strength to
be one with Him.
The Bible tells us in Psalm 37:4 (NIV):
“Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your
heart.”
It is therefore no surprise to see that, at the close of the last teaching
session in verse 5, she was taken aside once again into a further season
of intimacy with the Lord. This is the central place for spiritual growth
and revelation. It is an essential requirement of our Christian walk to
give Jesus time to speak into our innermost being—words that are
kisses from His mouth. This will enable our heart’s desire to become a
reality.
Read these words written by King David during his exile in the Judean
desert:
“O God of my life, I’m lovesick for you in this weary wilderness. I thirst
with the deepest longings to love you more, with cravings in my heart
that can’t be described. Such yearning grips my soul for you, my God!
