Course aims
Explain the expected learning outcomes for this course.
Cover the following:
• describe safe and efficient operation of the aerial appliance
• drive the appliance in transit correctly and safely
• site the appliance at an incident area to achieve optimal
performance of the aerial ladder
• stabalise the appliance using the outriggers and jacks prior to aerial
operation
• operate the aerial ladder to achieve given objectives efficiently
• manoeuvre the aerial monitor to achieve given objectives efficiently.
Standards to be met
• Site appliance correctly for the condition prevailing.
• Always place jacks correctly and at first attempt.
• Ensure safety requirements are followed.
• Operate the aerial smoothly and efficiently with minimum number of
movements.
• Have a thorough knowledge of all operating levers, gauges,
switches and lights.
• Have a thorough knowledge of aerial systems, aerial theory,
Operational Instructions, and all safety requirements on and around
aerials.
